IFR Proc – It’s the FAA’s Instrument Procedures Handbook for your iPhone or iPad. IFR Flying – It’s the FAA Instrument Flying Handbook on your iPhone or iPad. It then gives the crosswind component and shows direction graphically. It graphically diplays the runway heading (adjustable of course) and then you enter windspeed. X-Wind – a very easy to use crosswind calculator. It’s very useful for seeing what combinations give you a given power setting. PowerWheel – Calculates % HP based on RPM, MP, ALT and OAT when flying Rich of Peak EGT or total HP based on FF when flying Lean of Peak EGT. There’s a timer so as you get better you can work on speed. $4.99 It gives you three VOR radials and challenges you to put your airplane in the correct place by centering the needle. IVOR – a great little training app especially helpful when you are trying to master VOR navigation. HoldCalc – Does basically the same thing that HoldPattern does, just has a little differenct interface. HoldPattern – An easy to use holding pattern calculator that allows you to enter the desired hold radial and entry heading and then it shows graphically the pattern (left or standard) and the preferred entry (Parallel, Teardrop Direct). $5.99įltPlan – Another airport facility app. Free. It’s not nearly as intuitive or easy to use as MyE6B. PFMA – an E6B modeled on the one you can buy from Sporty’s. This one is comprehensive and the easiest to use of the several I have tested. With the basic weights and arms loaded you can easily input your fuel load, luggage load and passengers and then see a graphical depiction (envelope) of your takeoff and zero fuel W&B. $9.99ĬFI Tools Weight & Balance – This is an outstanding program that will allow you to input the W&B information for every airplane you fly (comes with a bunch of common SEL airplanes already loaded). It allows you to enter a Direct To flight plan and then will show your Groundspeed, Trac, DTK, Distance and ETE. It gives a basic weather overview on the charts (IFR, VFR, MVFR). Skycharts – This is an outstanding little app that gives your High and Low En Route IFR charts, VFR Sectionals, TAC charts. It’s excellent and easy to use but you must be an AOPA member. A little pricey at about $75 per year but the best overall tool I have found.ĪOPA Airports – a flight facilities directory. With the iPad it really eliminated the need for a Electronic Flight Book or VFR GPS. It is georeferenced with the iPhone or iPad built in GPS or external GPS. It has all approach charts for every airport and taxi diagrams. It has a Flight Rules overlay, wind chart including winds aloft, ceiling map, sky coverage, temperature map, dew point spread map, lightening display and IFR enroute (high and low) charts, VFR Sectional charts and a gasoline price lookup. ![]() It has AOPA Airports (facility directory) built in. This is an extremely robust program which will allow you to do complete preflight planning including weather, notams, flight plan filing, etc. Free.įoreFlight – Is an outstanding flight planning tool, weather tool, flying tool, flight plan filing tool. A great way to get an overall weather picture. Enter the city or airport and get all the weather you need including temp, windspeed and direction, humidity, dew point, 7 day forecast, maps, videos, weathercams, etc. Weatherbug – a great little weather tool. It has a very sophisticated viewer to allow you to look at different sections of the atmosphere not just ground level. RadarScope – an outstanding app which allows you to select radar station scope you want to view and which “tilt” you want to view. MyRadar – a good basic radar display app. Has a Metar/TAF plain language decoder which is helpful. $9.99ĪeroWeather – a more basic app useful for quickly looking at Metars and TAFs.
